
MRS. SANCIA BENNETT-TEMPLER
ACTING PRESIDENT, JAMPRO
Mrs. Sancia Bennett-Templer was appointed
Acting President of the Jamaica Promotions Corporation
(JAMPRO), Jamaica’s investment and export promotion
agency, effective June 01, 2006, having joined the
organization as Deputy President in April of that
same year.
Mrs. Templer is primarily responsible
for overseeing strategies geared at increasing the
levels of investment in targeted industry sectors,
as well as to develop the export sector with a view
to increasing the country’s foreign exchange
earnings.
Before joining JAMPRO, Mrs. Bennett-Templer
was Senior Vice President, Planning and Corporate
Development at the Airports Authority of Jamaica (AAJ),
where she was responsible for the commercial, marketing,
corporate planning and information technology functions.
During her tenure at the AAJ Mrs. Bennett-Templer
contributed significantly to the privatization of
the Sangster International Airport (SIA) and subsequently
assumed responsibility for the management of the Concession
Agreement with the private operator, MBJ Airports
Ltd. In addition she managed and coordinated a Multi-lateral
Investment Fund, Inter-American Development Bank project
to prepare the airport sector for privatisation.
More recently Mrs. Bennett-Templer
spearheaded negotiations for the financing of the
Phase 2 project for SIA on behalf of the AAJ and was
also responsible for securing financing for the US$80M
expansion and upgrading project for the Norman Manley
International Airport. Additionally, Mrs. Bennett-Templer
established the Marketing and Commercial Development
Division at the AAJ and implemented procedures and
concepts which saw the international airports introduce
up-to-date commercial operations and services and
modern merchandising systems, which resulted in substantially
increased revenues to the airports and enhanced levels
of service to the traveling public.
Mrs. Bennett-Templer also has significant
private sector experience having served as General
Manager and then Managing Director of International
Shipping Limited, a subsidiary of Grace Kennedy and
Company Limited, and the then local agents for Zim
Container Service. As a female pioneer in the shipping
industry, she developed and expanded International
Shipping from one of the smallest Steamship Agencies
in the industry to the largest in respect of tonnage
handled.
A graduate of the University of the West Indies and
Plymouth Polytechnic in England, Mrs. Bennett-Templer
holds an Executive Masters in Business Administration,
a Bachelor of Science in Management Studies and a
Master of Science in International Shipping. She is
a Certified Member of the American Association of
Airport Executives & International Association
of Airport Executives and has served as a member of
Jamaica’s Air Policy Committee. Mrs Bennett
Templer is married to Julian Templer and has two children,
Lindsay and Gavin.
