Jamaica Public Service Company Ltd (JPSCO) The mandate of the Jamaica Public Service Company (JPSCo), is to provide a reliable and cost effective source of power, in order to drive the country’s energy intensive economy. The light and power monopoly, which was formerly owned by the state, was recently sold to the United States (U.S.), based Mirant Corporation.
The National Water Commission
The National Water Commission (NWC) is a statutory body, which was established under the provisions of the National Water Authority Amendment Act of 1980. The role of the commission is the storage and distribution of potable water, as well as the collection and disposal sewerage.
Cable and Wireless Jamaica Limited
Cable & Wireless Jamaica Limited, a subsidiary of the United Kingdom (U.K.), based Cable & Wireless Place, is the country’s former telecom monopoly. It currently provides access to some 500,000 land lines, while providing mobile communications services to approximately 350,000 Jamaicans. The company, which is also one of the country’s five internet service providers, recently spent over $4 billion to upgrade its network, in order to improve its ability to compete when the telecommunications industry is fully liberalised in March of this year.
Digicel Jamaica Limited
Digicel Jamaica Limited, a subsidiary of the Irish based, Mossel Engineering Limited, is the world's fastest growing mobile communications provider, with approximately 700,000 customers. The company has so far invested some US$630 million, to establish and expand its network in order to cope with the rapid growth of its mobile customer base. Digicel also plans to provide wireless land based service when the telecommunications market is fully liberalised in March.

Oceanic Digital is the country’s third largest mobile communications provider.
Infochan Limited
Infochan Limited, is one of the country’s leading internet and voice over internet service providers. The company’s growth prospects have improved significantly following a recent ruling by the Supreme Court that the provision of overseas long distance calls using the yap jack, which allows it to bypass Cable & Wireless’ facilities, is not illegal.
Port Authority Free Zones
The Port Authority Free Zones are duty free enclaves encompassing three extensive industrial complexes at major points on the island. Within these Free Zones goods can be: Manufactured, Warehoused, Packaged for Export, Free from normal taxes, Free from normal Customs & requirements.
These Zones also offer services, particularly in the middle to high-end segment of the Information Technology sector.
