Overview
The apparel sector grew phenomenally during the period 1983 to 1996 to the point where it recorded the largest increase in non-traditional exports. The value of exports generated by the sector moved from US$7.1M in 1980 and peaked at US$535.68M in 1996. There were some 80 manufacturing entities of which 36 were exporters, employing approximately 7,000 workers in the year 2001.
